Why Do Horses Point Their Ears?

HORSES COMMUNICATE ATTENTION WITH THEIR EARS…

Have you ever noticed the ears of a horse?

I’ve been spending time lately just watching. I also bring the ears of a horse to the attention of the participants in LEAD THE WAY EQUINE LEARNING activities.

Ears say a lot!

Horses point their ears in the direction they are looking. Pointed ears just indicates where the attention lies, and the horse doesn’t want to miss a single thing.

Watch the eyes, too.

Brayleigh can be eating, but also have one ear toward me and one eye watching my every move. That’s so cool. She’s eating, but she always knows where I am.

The whole act of standing or siting to just observe is so important for us humans. We move so fast. We do things without thinking. We, sometimes are oblivious of what is going on around us.

In equine assisted learning, you can learn the simple act of being still to just watch a horse move and think. It is a skill that can be transferred to human interactions.

Your job, if you choose to accept it….is to go watch a horse for 30 minutes. Then come tell me what you saw and what you learned.

It has the potential to be life changing!
