Leading in uncertain times means stepping into the unknown without a clear map—and having the courage to admit it.
It’s recognizing that we don’t have all the answers, and resisting the urge to pretend otherwise. In fact, the most powerful thing a leader can do in these moments is to be vulnerable.
Saying “I don’t know, but I’m here with you and together we can figure it out” builds trust. It creates space for authenticity, honesty, and real connection.

Authentic leadership isn’t about having it all figured out.
Twenty-first-century leadership is about showing up as human, inviting others to do the same, and creating a culture where uncertainty isn’t feared—it’s faced together. In this kind of environment, leadership becomes a shared responsibility. Everyone contributes, everyone listens, and everyone looks out for one another.
Teams are strongest when leadership flows between the team members.
When people feel safe to speak up, take initiative, and offer support. When one person stumbles, another steps in to help, naturally, with no judgment.
That’s how we navigate complexity—not through individual brilliance, but through collective strength, empathy, and trust.
Uncertain times don’t call for perfect leaders.
They call for real ones. Ones who lead with heart, share the load, and never forget that we’re better—always—when we lead together.

Horses have something to teach us about leading in uncertainty.
Horses can teach us to lead with presence, not control. They respond to calm, clear intention, not force.
In uncertainty, they convene and then decide, reminding us to stay grounded, trust connection over command, and lead with quiet confidence. They show us that true leadership begins with being grounded, listening, and having authentic relationships.
Why do horses respond the way they do when they are with us?
Horses are natural herd animals—they thrive in connection, and they’re quick to welcome humans into their herd when they feel safe. It’s all about trust.
Here’s the cool part: horses want to be heard. If we slow down and really listen, they offer incredible feedback—honest, in-the-moment, and surprisingly insightful.
In a session, it can feel like they speak our language. No joke. Their responses are so tuned in, it’s like they’re fluent in human.
But really, it’s us learning to tune in differently—to body language, energy, presence. They listen to us, and if we’re open, they invite us to listen to them.
